The Mist (15) (2007)
Selected by The Electric Cinema

A freak storm unleashes a species of blood-thirsty creatures on a small town, where a small band of citizens hole-up in a supermarket and fight for their lives. An excellent Stephen King adaptation!

The Electric Cinema:

The country’s oldest working cinema, The Electric Cinema in Birmingham was restored to its original art deco glory in 2004 and has now become one of the most popular independent cinemas in the UK. Offering sofa seating and waiter service, The Electric provides a more comfortable and enjoyable way of watching both the latest mainstream releases and more offbeat arthouse fare, with special movie-named cocktails and homemade cakes available from a fully stocked bar.

Zombies of Sugar Hill(15) (1974)
Selected by Come:unity Arts Black Film Society

Blaxploitation revenge drama meets zombie horror!

After refusing to be shaken down by gangsters, Sugar Hill’s boyfriend is brutally murdered. In her quest for vengeance, she calls upon the help of aged voodoo queen Mama Maitresse and Baron Zamedi, the Lord of the Dead, for help in gaining a gruesome revenge. In exchange for her soul, the Dark Master raises up a zombie army to do her bidding. The bad guys who thought they were getting away clean are about to find out that they're dead wrong.

Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn (15) (1987)
Selected by The Public

A young couple drive out to a remote cabin in the woods… and you can guess what happens next… More of a tooled-up remake than a sequel, the Evil Dead 2 sees director Sam Raimi unleash all manner of supernatural demons, gore and manic humour. As a strange co-incidence, it’ll be 30 years this month since the original was first released.

Mum & Dad (18) (2008)
Selected by Birmingham International Film Society

The evening’s programme takes darker turn with this gruesome British shocker.

Mum and Dad, and their 'adopted' children, Birdie & Elbie, work at the airport. The family live off whatever they scavenge from cargo holds, offices and hotels - including a steady stream of transient workers who populate the airport's soulless hub. When Lena, a young Polish office cleaner, is befriended by Birdie, she gets drawn into a nightmarish world of torture, and murder. Imprisoned in a suburban House of Horrors and designated a 'Mummy's Girl', Lena's only options appear to be to become part of the family - and join them in their insanity - or die.

The Birmingham International Film Society:

Birmingham International Film Society (BIFS) began in April 2008, with a purpose to showing films from around the world that are otherwise not being seen in the city's cinemas. They show two films a week at the Library Theatre, a purpose built venue in the heart of the Birmingham city centre.

BIFS won 'Film Society of the Year' and 'Best Film Programming' at the BFFS National Awards 2010, a fantastic achievement and acknowledgment that BIFS is committed to bringing the best in international film to Birmingham.

Audience Vote

The final film of the evening will be picked by you, our ghastly audience! So get thinking, and cast your vote when buying your ticket from our box office. If you book online via ticketsellers, email your choice along with your name, to info_public@sandwell.gov.uk.

The nominations are:

Shaun of the Dead – Simon Pegg and hordes of the undead!
Dog Soldiers – Squaddies vs Werewolves!
Beetlejuice – Tim Burton's unmistakably loony take on the afterlife.
Saw – The twisting and twisted thriller that kicked off a series.
The Wizard of Oz – Well, it scares us anyway.

Why not discuss your selections on twitter @_the_public or on our facebook page

Plus there’ll be a selection of short films, animations and curiosities suggested by Birmingham’s 7inch Cinema!
