Colourful Bindis

By Rupinder Sangha

A spectacular Asian Cultural tapestry made with 33 pupils from RSA Academy in Tipton.

Each child created their own designed Bindi using fabrics, sequins, beads and gems.

Colour is the vitality of the Indian culture; it is the brilliance of colour in an arid setting that is the very essence of India. The everyday dress of the people of India sets a kaleidoscope to our eyes, a cluster of colours can dazzle with the sequins and beads. The embroidery to this intensity of colour shows this embellishment but as an artist Rupinder wanted to show the more significant purpose of the piece not only being through the illusion and excitement of the work but also the process which links the tapestry to the Asian Culture and bringing the community together.
