From 1 December to 9 January a spectacular Winter Grotto was built in the Lower Gallery of The Public.
Made from recycled materials, the structure was illuminated using ultra violet lights and human powered dynamo systems, bringing to life the magic of Christmas. A fascinating sensory experience, the Grotto was perfect entertainment for all ages and an ideal participatory activity for people with Special Educational Needs to enjoy.
Over the Christmas period, visitors to The Public were encouraged to get in to the festive spirit by helping build the awe inspiring installation, or simply marvel at the incredible sculpture. Ffun, hands on, workshops, took place over the festive season, with visitors encouraged to come and be creative.
Local schools and community groups also helped build the light structure, adding their own personal touch to the installation.
