The original idea for The Public - a fun palace. Jubilee Arts, supported by Sandwell Council, applied for the money to build it.

The big idea
Since the recession of the 1980s much of the industry had left Sandwell Borough and many people were out of work.
Jubilee Arts, a local community arts project, believed that the arts could help make Sandwell a better place.
Jubilee wanted to help their town get back its respect and aspirations.
They decided to try and make a new kind of art centre, originally to be called c/Plex - one which combined community arts and new technology.
